Mind of the Architect
The Installation Committee is an ambassador program and part of the UNM School of Architecture and Planning Department. This committee participates in the School of Architecture and Planning annual open house.
Goal: To create an installation which demonstrates the process an architecture student uses to mentally develop a project. The team reuse work from existing student to represent the mind of the architect. Most people see the building in a finished state, but do not see the process that leads to the final design.
The structure represents a model you would see in a studio and was scaled up for human usability. We created a wooden structure that could be walked though or sat upon. The frame was built from 2x4’s and skinned with cardboard on the vertical element. The seating was built using wood decking. The reused student work was displayed inside the installation and symbolizes the thought process of an architectural student.
